Event Intelligence Solutions, or EIS, are AI-driven platforms that correlate, reason over and resolve IT and network events in real time. The term describes the shift from tooling that surfaces events for humans to interpret, toward systems that interpret events themselves and act on the conclusion.
How does EIS differ from AIOps?
EIS is narrower and more specific. AIOps covers any application of AI to IT operations, including capacity forecasting and change analytics. EIS describes the event pipeline in particular — ingestion, correlation, reasoning and resolution — and emphasises the reasoning step. In practice most EIS platforms are AIOps platforms; the term identifies which part of the problem they address.
How does EIS differ from observability?
Observability platforms are built to make system state visible and queryable, with a human doing the interpreting. EIS platforms are built to do the interpreting. The two sit adjacent in the stack: observability tooling is frequently an input to an EIS platform rather than a competitor to it.
Why has the category emerged now?
Because event volume passed the point where human triage scales, and because reasoning over events became technically feasible. Knowledge graphs give AI systems verified structure to reason against rather than pattern-matching alone, which is what makes automated conclusions trustworthy enough to act on. Without that, correlation produces plausible guesses nobody is willing to automate.
Who is tracking the category?
Vitria Technology was named a Sample Vendor for Event Intelligence Solutions across seven 2026 Gartner Hype Cycle reports, and a Vendor to Watch in the IDC MarketScape for AIOps. Appledore Research and ISG have published related work on the path to autonomous operations.
What should you look for in an EIS platform?
Whether it reasons or only correlates. Correlation groups related events; reasoning determines what they mean and what to do. Ask how conclusions are reached, whether the reasoning can be inspected, whether the underlying model of the environment maintains itself as things change, and what scale it has been proven at.
