Service Assurance & Customer Experience

Linking network and service health to the customer experience operators deliver.

Service assurance is the practice of keeping delivered services performing to the standard customers expect. It differs from network monitoring in what it measures: the service a customer actually receives, rather than the health of the components underneath. A network can report itself fully operational while the service running across it is materially degraded.

What is the difference between network monitoring and service assurance?

Monitoring answers whether a component is working. Service assurance answers whether the customer is being served. The distinction matters because the two frequently disagree — no element is in alarm, yet a service path spanning several domains is failing. Assurance requires a view that crosses infrastructure, application and customer-experience data rather than stopping at a domain boundary.

How do you connect an infrastructure fault to customer impact?

Through a model of which services depend on which components, and which customers depend on which services. VIA AIOps correlates horizontally across the service delivery ecosystem and vertically through infrastructure, application and customer-experience data to produce a single incident with its impact attached. Without that mapping, impact assessment is manual and happens after customers have already noticed.

Which metrics actually reflect customer experience?

Service availability as the customer experiences it, time to restore a degraded service, and the proportion of issues caught before customers report them. Component uptime is a poor proxy: an estate at 99.99% element availability can still deliver a poor experience if failures cluster on the paths customers use most.

How do you prioritise incidents by business impact?

Rank by consequence rather than by severity flag. That means attaching SLA exposure, regulatory obligation and revenue at risk to each incident at the point it is raised, so triage reflects what is actually at stake. Severity set at the element level tells you how loudly something is failing, not how much it costs.

Where does customer experience data belong in the operations stack?

Upstream of triage, not downstream of it. If experience data only arrives in reporting, it describes damage already done. Used as a correlation input, it determines which of several simultaneous faults gets worked first — which is the decision that actually protects the customer.

Who this is for

Service assurance leads, customer experience owners, and operations directors accountable for SLA performance.
